1. This is in response to the EU magazine giveaway...and the asian promotions...it is North America's chance at the rare minis...bout friggin time. Halloween is a separate promo designed to get creative Halloween stuff...the minis are just the rewards to get people interested.

2. It is a giveaway...requiring no skill at all...there is no judging...it is simply a lottery...around the world there are many laws about lotteries/raffles. Some places outright forbid it...some places have too many requirements to make it worth the effort.

3. Halloween, Brand the Bosses, Design a Weapon were and are all competitions...requiring some form of skill...and the results are determined by judges...I can't say for sure but I'm betting there's a lot fewer rules regarding that around the world...thus the reason it can be done in more countries.

I'll be happy if I get a mini...I don't care which one...because unlike most of the people it'll be going into my collection.

Do you people honestly believe that Anet would intentionally piss off their customer base by intentionally favoring one region over another? Which is more likely...that or they are simply trying to do the best they can to offer a similar chance at the rare minis? But because of regional differences in laws they are having to do it piecemeal as they can arrange the promos.

People who try to say Anet is out to get them need to grow the hell up...seriously...get a frickin life...it's a game...these are virtual objects that have no real impact on your life (other than raising your blood pressure unnecessarily).

Oh, and for those of you ready to jump in with "But why DON'T they have the money for legal issues?!1", let me remind you of their ethical mantra for this game - NO MONTHLY FEE.
i've pointed out before that these giveaways don't *have* to involve magazines.the mechanism is there to distribute presents in game, i believe. this should circumvent any regional laws there are. shouldn't really cost a lot as well.

tying up with magazines however may provide it with promotion of the GW franchise in those mags. the point is, maybe they could think up of some other ways to distribute these items in future that will limit complaints of unfairness.

But all they had to do was tell us and then maybe all the energy put into complaining would be put into ways around it.

It would have been nice for there to have been some kind of statement on the game webpage about this.

No one in the UK is going to believe it's a local law that prevented it since 2 previous magazines gave away minis.

Suggestion

If they made the pet givaways in each country different in content but the same as to chance of getting the pet, you would see a fairly decent trade going on by players.

By all means give the USA a destroyer, then give each other country or group of countries some other pet and watch us trade away happily.

Especially as I have already suggested the codes should all activate on the same date.

While i find it mildly annoying that the minipet is a lottery, Ican live with that, most competitions are in one form or another, you simply have to do something and then hope your entery wins, whethers its designing a picture, name, or simply sending your details in.

I may also find the magazine giveaways annoying when they are restricted to certain regions, but at least you have the abilty to purchase them online. Thats how i got my wife and I destroyer pets.

What really hacks me off is when you have to pay to get a lottery chance, and that chance is a ticket in a mag, which is expensive, and the prizes will more than likely nevr get to a GW player. On top of this is when they announce the American equivalent is a simply enter online, dont pay a fortune for it.

Regional law may apply in some case but the fact here from the guildwars.com site in previous online competitions shows that these online comps are available to a widespread section of the community.

I don't need to look up various sites to find suspect laws on them, all i need to do is look on the GW site as see where these competitions have been run.

Obviously promotions are different, as they will come under a different set of rules, and while we know the mag giveaways, Asura and Gray giant were avialble in a lot of places and these are limited supply, the Grawl need not have been and at least they could have been in every mag that didnt have the rare ones. that way everyone in Europe would have been happy and got at least a mini.

If regulations prevent this type of offer in Australia and NZ then they shoudl get an online entry like America and Canada. And since we get birthday presents in the game, why cant those poor Quebec folk and other areas excluded even from that get them ingame as a surprise?

There should be ways around this, and it shouldn't need to involve piles of cash to circumvent regional laws. Though it may invovle a bit of time coding the game to do it.

I live in the UK and just got a destroyer minipet looks really good too.

Didnt post that to brag "well just a little maybe" but to inform interested parties how they might get one.

A friend at University in Liverpool phones me says the American GW magazine is in the Uni Bookshop for £7-95 it has the codes and they are sealed "codes that is not magazine".
Do I want one, yep, Bit later I get the code and now have the pet.

I am guessing that because the university has Students from USA they get American magazines and newspapers.

If you have live in or near a university town maybe you can do the same.

anyway thought I would pass it on

btw the pet is pretty good, like the size of it too nice big pets are good.

The lottery seems like a pretty cool idea, in my opinion.

The European mini-pet "Golden Ticket" give away is the problem. I'd love to enter the lottery, but I'm not paying for an £8 magazine so that I might have the chance of getting a mini-pet. And what about all the subscribers and guys who regularly buy the magazine that don't even play Guild Wars? What a waste. I don't usually complain about things around here, but that was a seriously retarded idea.

You don't buy a magazine to get a minipet. You buy the magizine to GET THE MAGAZINE. The mini is just a random reward thing. Its like buying a mountain dew to get the 1 and 8 chance to get a free mountain dew bottle cap. The mini for random people is a nice bonus. Its not why you are supposed to buy it.

If that's true, why do they even bring up the fact that these magazines carry minipet opportunities on guildwars.com? Readers will find out when they get their magazines.

Of course people are going to buy the magazines just for the pets. And a good thing too, thanks to them there's a good chance that more than a handful out of the 1000 codes will actually make it into the game at all.

PC mags stopped being just about the mag when they started tacking discs on and the prices rose to 2 or 3 times what they used to be. Who pays £7 for something to read on the loo?

The best way to have handle the magazine "lotto" was to make it so every mag got a unique mini with a chance to get one of the rare minis. This way it is not a lottery it is a guarantee to at least get a new mini.
It is kinda like the birthday minis, some got a devourer worth 3k and some got a bone dragon worth 100k + xx ectos, not exactly fair but everyone got something.

I agree totally Magazines used to worth buying but not for some years at least not for me.
So much of their content is online why bother, well for the pet code maybe.

i stopped buying computer mags over 10 years ago the only reason i buy one now is to get somethign for GW. I simply dont have the money or time to be playign every game out there that may interest me, and thats because they take so long to play now.

Computer magazines dont seem to be aimed at my age group, they don;t read well, and really don't interest me in the slightest.

promotions liek this are purely cynical drives on the part of marketing departments. It boost the mag sales and promotes the game. And happily coincides witht he review of the game in the mag

I may be dumb enough to buy the mag, but i'm not dumb enough to believe that this offer is anythign other than that

I'm inclined to believe tons of people won. There's been a noticeable influx of mini yeti's, naga raincallers, vizu's, oni's and grawls for sale in high end.

Wait how did you win it if the winners weren't announced yet?

Indeed, this does require an explanation. Did you win the Yeti for Mini Mania, Halloween, Brand the Bosses or what? Could have come from any of those promotions, if I remember right.
